AWARD OF SARVOTTAM JEEVAN RAKSHA PADAK (POSTHUMOUS) TO LATE DEEPAK KUMAR, POME

Late Deepak Kumar, Petty Officer from the Eastern Naval Command, hailing from Hajipur(bihar), has been posthumously conferred the Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak by the Hon’ble President of India, in recognition of his exceptional courage, selflessness and supreme sacrifice in saving human life. The award was presented to Mrs Raushani Kumari, wife of the deceased sailor by the Chief of the Naval Staff during the Naval Investiture Ceremony held at Mumbai on 01 April 2026.

On 14 September 2024 at Sariya Waterfalls, in Devarapalli, Andhra Pradesh Late Deepak Kumar bravely attempted to rescue a person being swept away in turbulent waters. Despite his courageous efforts, both were overpowered by strong currents and lost their lives.

Late Deepak Kumar’s act reflects the highest traditions of the Indian Navy. The Indian Navy salutes his indomitable courage and pay homage to supreme sacrifice.
